Our Gap Ministries
More than 500 calls come into the Love INC office each month. Many are requests from people who are elderly or disabled seeking help with housework, grocery shopping or transportation. Some are from people who can't afford adequate furnishings, home repair or household and personal hygiene supplies. Others are overwhelmed with health crises, family issues or emotional distress and simply need someone to pray with them.
With the help of nearly 50 partner churches and about 1,500 volunteers, Love INC of Benton County offers more than a dozen "Gap Ministries" to help fill gaps in services and resources in the community that are not currently or sufficiently being met. It also sponsors several annual events such as City Serve and the Christmas Store.

Kitchen Closets
Two Kitchen Closets, a ministry of Life Community Church and Philomath Church of the Nazarene, offer kitchen items to people who can't afford to buy everything they need for their kitchen when they move into their own home for the first time. Some of the things people frequently request include pots and pans, coffee pots, dishes, cutlery, microwaves and toasters. Delivery Ministry
Donated items – everything from bed linens to cookware to personal hygiene items and so much more – come into the Love INC office every day. Volunteers are always needed to help transport donations to where they can be stored and accessed more easily. Sometimes larger items such as furniture, appliances or medical equipment need to be picked up from a donor’s house and delivered directly to a Love INC client. Volunteers should have their own vehicle, a valid driver’s license and insurance. Dental Referrals
Love INC can fill out a referral for individuals to seek treatment at the Benton County Health Department. Because of a generous local grantor, Love INC covers the cost of the patient's copay. Durable Medical Equipment
The Love INC Medical Shed is a joint ministry of several Benton County churches. This ministry offers free durable medical equipment such as walkers, commodes, crutches, wheelchairs, etc. There is no limit on how long equipment is used for. Love INC greatly appreciates when equipment is returned after use so that it can continue to bless others in need. F.A.R.M
Our Feeding Area Residents Meat (F.A.R.M.) program uses livestock donations to provide quality meats to individuals, food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in our community. Meat comes from livestock put up for bid at the 4-H auction at the Benton County Fair each summer, as well as other donors throughout the year. We manage a fund of private donations and grants that pays for the processing of livestock donations. Firewood
The Firewood Ministry helps keep families warm during the winter. Several volunteer teams spend time in the spring and summer cutting, splitting and gathering wood which is then stored at Calvary Corvallis. Care Closet
Housed at Northwest Hills Community Church, this ministry has been created to equip new foster families with essential items for welcoming a child into their home. It will help ease the transition for foster children and will assist foster families by offering them support during the hurried period when a child is placed in their care. Items available include, but are not limited to: clothing and shoes sizes newborn to 18 years old, baby gear, children’s toiletries, toys and books. |
Layette Ministry
Our Layette Ministry, housed at Westminster Presbyterian Church, offers expectant and new mothers the basic newborn items they need when they bring their baby home from the hospital. Client referrals also may come from a variety of places, including Options Pregnancy Resource Center. Among the supplies they can find are blankets, clothes, diapers, wipes, and toiletries. Linen Closet
The Linen Closet, a ministry of Northwest Hills Community Church, offers a variety of bed and bath supplies to people in need. Some of the items offered through the Linen Closet include sheets, pillows, blankets, bedspreads, comforters, towels and sleeping bags. Maternity Clothes Closet
The Maternity Clothes Closet, a ministry of Harvest Christian Center, provides maternity clothes for expectant mothers in need. New or gently used maternity clothes, especially in larger sizes, are always needed. Ministry of Encouragement
The Love INC Call Center often receives calls from people who are simply lonely and need someone to talk to -- someone who will listen to them and offer a word of encouragement. Two to three volunteers participate each week in this ministry by calling people from the Love INC office to pray with and encourage them. Others do this from home. Personal Hygiene Item Closet
The Personal Hygiene Closet, a ministry of First Baptist Church of Corvallis, collects and gives out a number of items that cannot be purchased with food stamps. These are particularly helpful to our clients experiencing homelessness and to low-income families. Among the items available are dish soap, laundry soap, toilet paper, shampoo, razors, hairbrushes, combs, toothpaste, toothbrushes, women's hygiene products, laundry vouchers and diapers. Preschool Clothing Closet
The Preschool Clothing Closet, a joint ministry of several churches, was started to help parents who could not find affordable clothing for their young children. Families with children in need of clothing from size 1-6 can arrange a visit to the Clothing Closet. |
