A little more about stories and walking this Earth together....God has His Story and He also places us in His story in ways that hopefully help bring the Kingdom of God to Earth.
Thee are times when our stories simply slam into one another. Unexpected. The family that is blithely driving to the lake hit head on by an intoxicated driver. Now forever, they 'share' a story. Each one may have a different narrative, but still they are now 'entwined.'
There are times when stories are sneaky, deceptive and that story is enticing and draws in a vulnerable person who then experiences many wounds....
Thankfully there are other stories of good.
A Science Professor who spoke to a young college gal, saying "You are smart. You can do this." First time she had heard this. Now that moment is always a part of her story.
A Grandfather who took his little one for shoulder rides and showed her where the wild violets grow, planting a love of beauty with her.
A coach who watched a player make a major error in a game. At 1/2 time the locker room was silent. No pep talks, no corrections or shaming. Right before the call back into the game, Coaches words; "The same team that started will also start the second half. The young man was stunned. Unbelieving of this kindness. He went on to play an astounding second half. Now that coach and his choice, is always a part of the story of this young man's life.
Our stories can gently collide...two people in the same circles finally beginning to know one another and become friends. This is like opening an unexpected gift, as God then weaves a friendship together that lasts forever.
Stories can unravel. A crisis happens and your life story changes. Now you are on a path never before thought of. Yes, even though 'this' happened to you...you have choices in this new story...maybe even some wonderful surprises after the shock and pain of being unraveled.
These are just a few examples of our stories. The fact is that everyone has A story and we also have MANY stories. As we walk through our days on planet Earth I wonder how aware we are of the impact our living stories have on people around us? How much awareness do we bring into our interactions with other people whom God (also) dearly loves?
Are we brave and authentic in sharing our stories, encouraging one another and building one another up? Or being vulnerable enough to share pain, weakness, failures...so others have an opportunity to give their best?
We are each unique and God wanted each of us to be born in this time and place for His purposes. His story, our story, clearly woven together by the intricate, strong threads of His love and grace. Let us look for ways daily to impact another's story for His glory...His purposes.
There are a myriad of stories to enjoy, or to be a 'willing witness' to another's pain...all stories to partake in. He trusts us with all of this. Amazing.
