A volunteer agrees to take a young adult with some challenges to visit his mom, who is a senior in a care facility. He and his mom and want to visit . . . and he is required to have a companion with him. The mom has some memory issues but also enjoys these visits. My heart was made glad today after learning that the volunteer makes this treasured visit happen three times a week!!! Wow!
Another 'small' kindness from another volunteer: he will go to a senior couple's home and do some needed small repairs to help things go more smoothly. This couple deals with one of them also battling memory issues. This volunteer has skills and by using an hour or two of his time will have truly helped them!
Another team of two men is delivering a couch and other small items to a young man who now has a place to live, but no furniture. The hour or so of their time will give this client a place to sit and rest and also perhaps sleep as he waits for a bed.
Our bike team went out of their way recently to get a bike to a person who needs it to meet mandated obligations. They took it to the individual's home, so the client is ready to go when that obligation happens. This truly makes a real difference in his life!
Someone else brought us seven used sleeping bags. Well used. These were passed on to people who work with people who are homeless. When we remarked that the sleeping bags were well loved, they expressed it was "still good to have something. And the ground tarp is awesome!"
There are many small acts of kindness that still need to happen. Our Neighbors in Need are many. Looking for someone who would do an occasional haircut for home bound people? Looking for people to deliver small items.
While we are pondering ways to assist lonely and isolated seniors, a chaplain came to mind. We called him and this person is interested in visiting some of our Neighbors who would be very blessed by this kindness! Thanks for praying this into being.
Our Lord loves kindness. Our valley is in need of great doses of kindness. Come and help us spread this wonderful 'fruit' all around!
