Broken For Gold

10/23/2015

So many of us live in a world where when something is broken we throw it away. Or if we really 'love' it we keep it and hide or disguise the broken part. Broken things are de valued. Oh for craftsmen and women who love to repair things. I have a friend who does that...she looks at something old, broken or in need of repair...has a vision for what it could be and then she carefully and lovingly makes that happen.

Our world...and indeed, even our own community is FILLED with people who have broken hearts, broken spirits and broken relationships.

A couple we are beginning to work with are broken and having anxiety because a landlord is not dealing justly with them. They are needing a place to move to...and yet cannot afford to lose deposits. We connect them with a person who may be able to help. This  couple deals with disabilities and the gal is often in tears.

A parent we know who is praying her Adult Child will be 'caught' and go to jail...so she will at least know where her dear one is and be able to re connect. It can be a fear filled place to be.

A Grandparent couple we work with is now looking at raising those children longer...as parents are again looking at consequences that come from addictions. The parents are not 'the enemy' the drugs are!

An older man who is homeless is longing for a safe place to park his vehicle. He confesses to having some health issues and memory problems. His voice breaks when speaking about his situation.

We observe interactions a parent is having with young children and we have some concerns for each of them and desire better ways of functioning. A healthy mentor would be wonderful...plus her willingness to receive one.

We find out more information about a different client family, that raises concerns. We make a call to Adult Protective Services on this ones behalf. How do people get to where they are....?

A disabled client who only asks for what is needed lets us know her income has changed. She also only gets about $30.00 for food helps. She must still pay rent and other bills. She is tackling things as able.

A client calls needing a ride from the hospital when he is released. He also needs to get meds and food. Thankfully we have a volunteer willing to help him. (We wonder...is there anyone in his life FOR him?)

All real people, all feeling degrees of brokenness. I am glad of this TRUTH: "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in Spirit." (Psalm34:18).

To many people, broken things are despised as worthless. Hopefully we do not have that attitude towards broken people. Damaged, broken people are still made in the Image of God. These people we just shared about...were once innocent children who had all of life before them. People with dreams and hopes and plans...people who are now in the pits.

Our deepest need is to be reconciled to God. And some of these real stories are happening in the lives of people who DO love God. Tough to always be walking in being 'surrendered' to His ways...especially when a dear one is making unwise, harmful choices.

We desire to connect these dear ones to a healthy Church and/or Healthy believers who will walk WITH them through the yuck. We believe God wants to set people FREE and bring them into an abundant place...Will you pray with us for this?

Kintsugi is the Japanese Art of fixing broken pottery with GOLD. "Most  people would like damages to their broken items to be concealed and hidden by repair, making the object look new. But the Japanese art of Kintsugi follows a different philosophy. Rather than disguising the breakage, kintsugi restores the broken item by incorporating  the damaged part with GOLD...thus making the object something more beautiful than the original." What was broken and damaged now is interlaced with Gold that shines...

GOD is like that! When God is doing something new, He is sweeping away the yuck...and bringing new beauty. How can we be partnering with GOD  in the lives of people whom He loves? "Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." (John 3:18).

Lord, you are abounding in steadfast love to ALL who call on you. I am grateful
