JUXTOPOSITION

"The fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect."

This Week~~

A client calling and asking for a place to stay when discharged from the hospital. An adult who used to be a child without this kind of worry and concern.

Watching a lovey young girl  dressed in bright pink ride her bike...hair blowing and smiling. Seemingly not a care in the world.

A couple who came into our office hoping for helps in a place to park their vehicle and have a safe place to stay, after experiencing harassment from another person close to where they have been parking. The woman in tears and the man expressing frustration and being 'unfaired' against.

Seeing a laughing couple at the grocery store. Able to fill their cart well and enjoy shopping together. Then walking out to their vehicle and filling their trunk with these needed supplies. And driving to their own home. A safe shelter.

A single parent who is now able to move into a place that is in need of repairs, but will be their own. Needing help with purchasing a sink for the kitchen so dishes can be washed.

Almost any one of 'us' who has a home to live in and a sink or two in the kitchen that we use without even thinking about it!

A person with mental health issues who is wandering the streets because there are no places for her to live that work well for her. Her torment very visible on her face.

Another person who may have mental health issues happening...and has a parent who will lovingly find helps needed.

A child who is going to school hungry and without needed supplies because his family is homeless. And even though 'couch surfing' there is no consistent place to rest, eat and do homework.

A different child who has a home and a family. Has dinner and snacks and the same bed to sleep in every night. Does homework at the lichen table wrapped in warmth and security.

A person just out of jail trying to find work, wanting very much to work. Hasn't yet been successful.

A person just out of High School and 'taking a year off' before college. Finding work and managing to also afford a vehicle.

And this list could go on forever. Certainly each person is responsible for their own choices, except for children who find themselves in situations not of their own making. Certainly each needs to do all each one is capable of. AND...the 'playing ground' is uneven. There are injustices happening.

Let us be asking ourselves, How can I bring justice into situations that are unjust? . What is it I can do? Let us be quick to offer encouragement and hope to people who are struggling. Let us be aware of neighbors in need who live right in our pathways. What would Jesus ask of us?

"For those who have been given much...much is expected."
