Families who struggle financially find an 'extra' like Thanksgiving to be a challenge to stretch already threadbare resources and try to come up with a 'feast' to celebrate.
This year, three different churches are blessing some of our client families. THANK YOU!
Here is a sampling of the families being blessed:
A grandmother on a fixed income now raising her grandchildren. Not only is the food helpful, the fact that people care amazes her.
Another family being helped is one that lives year after year on 'not enough' to hardly make it each month. The lady of the house is often discouraged. So another year of helping them be able to celebrate 'like anyone else' is another opportunity to plant HOPE into their lives.
This year, we were 'prompted' to ask some of our older/elderly folks if they wanted a Thanksgiving basket. A dear 80-plus year old was just delighted that we would ask her. She is so thankful. Her prayers overflow!
Two single moms requested a basket that they can share, as they join together to celebrate this holiday with their young ones. The Thanksgiving basket creates a festive ambiance for them to enjoy.
A couple is glad to receive this and comfortable enough to ask for what they need, as one is dealing with cancer. Another sweet opportunity for prayers and imparting hope. These clients' attitude is amazing.
A family here from another country, perhaps not even sure what Thanksgiving is about. Far, far away from home, they are hungry and in need of extra food. This is a way to show care for them and hopefully help them feel welcome in our community.
A newly single adult with grown children who is also new to us was offered this Thanksgiving basket. She declined at first, having "always been the one able to give and help". We reminded her that she had then 'payed it forward' and that this is a season to receive. She agreed and then spoke blessings upon us.
A family recovering from dealing with one member being incarcerated was so happy to hear about this. They can now have extended family over and celebrate this Holiday TOGETHER. The comment was made that this year they are 'living a dream' able to all be together.
And one more . . . another older lady gladly accepted this offer. In her younger years, she managed a quite successful restaurant and loves to cook and be hospitable. It is her joy. This Thanksgiving basket helps her to be able to experience all of those joys again.
Thanks to each one who is giving to make these stories happen. GOD is using YOU in these stories!
There are many more. Not space enough to share all.
"I will give thanks to you with all my heart . . . I will give thanks to your Name because of your mercy and truth. You have made your name and your promise greater than everything." from Psalm 138
Have a BLESSED Thanksgiving!
